UNPLUGGED
Sticking with being lazy (to be fair to myself, I'm really busy at work and don't have the time when I come in at night to devote enough time to TVV to keep it really fresh), here's a posting from April 2007 with a couple of additions:-
The alternative version of this R.E.M. song the other day seems to have gone down well with many visitors judging by the number of times it was downloaded:-
mp3 : R.E.M. - Why Not Smile (Oxford American Version)
Being a populist sort of a bloke, I thought I'd post a few more alternative acoustic versions of well-known songs:-
mp3 : Ash - Burn Baby Burn
mp3 : Basement Jaxx - Romeo
mp3 : Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds - The Mercy Seat
Even if you're not a fan of dance music, have a listen to the stripped-back version of the Basement Jaxx number as I'm sure you'll be pleasantly surprised by how it has been turned into a bitter-sweet symphony. Or appalled at how it sounds like something you'd hear on the X-Factor.
The songs by Ash and Basement Jaxx can be found on bonus discs of the LPs Free All Angels and The Singles repectively, while Nick's alternative take on one of his early 'death songs' is part of the box-set, B-Sides and Rarities.
In the same posting I also linked to my then video clips blog to this rare and special footage featuring Edwyn Collins & Paul Quinn

Sigh indeed.
I loved the Velvet Underground version enormously. Until I heard this.
It's the richness of Paul Quinn's voice that makes this so beguiling and so, so beautiful.
I remember Edwyn would always joke at gigs about his guitar playing prowess - sure is perfect here.
Sigh. Yes, indeed. Sigh....
somewhat shockingly, I rather like that version of Romeo.
