MORE STUFF DANCED TO LAST SATURDAY NIGHT

For years, nay make that decades, I was never someone who rushed out and bought music that pre-dated from when I really took an active interest in music.  So anything pre-76/77 was ruled out.

This meant I never got into The Velvet Underground.  Even at Uni when folk implored me to listen without prejudice, the stubbornness that is such a big part of me came to the fore.  OK, I got to know a few of the songs thanks to them being covered by a number of my favourites, but I never succumbed to going out and buying any of the original stuff.

That changed about 10 years ago when I picked up a 'Best Of' CD for £3 in a post-Xmas sale and gave it a few listens.  I'm not going to say that I love everything on the record, but I can happily sing and dance along whenever something comes on the i-pod.

Last Saturday, John played one of my favourites of theirs:-

mp3 : The Velvet Underground - What Goes On

That he followed up with these turned it into a very very special 12 minutes:-

mp3 : The Jam - Down In The Tube Station At Midnight
mp3 : Morrissey - You're Gonna Need Someone On Your Side

A long cold drink was needed immediately afterwards.
