THE ORIGINAL 5TH BIRTHDAY POSTING

The announcement of the Butcher Boy gig last Friday overtook everything....which is hardly a surprise.  Many many thanks to all of you who said such nice things in the comments section and via email.  Really does mean a lot to me.

The scheduled posting for last Friday had much the same sort of intro about 5 years, 1700 postings etc and then went on to say this.

If I had the chance to get my hands on one piece of vinyl, it would of course be the first ever release on Postcard Records, a bit of vinyl so rare that even Edwyn Collins doesn't have a copy.  Record Collector magazine states there were 963 of them pressed, complete with folded sleeve, postcard and flexi disc.  Any copies that do come on-line for sale go for very silly money - as much as $450 US in some instances - and I have now officially given up even dreaming about it having a copy.

Part of what drove me on to try and get my grubby paws on this particular release was the fact it was the only single in the Postcard catalogue that I haven't tracked down over the past 5 years as I tried to re-build the collection of 7" singles.  But I'm really just kidding myself.  Yes, I have the Postcard singles, but my copies are, for the most part second pressings and some with replacement sleeves and very few of the all-important inserts, so I've a damn cheek trying to find 'the holy grail.'  To illustrate what I mean, this the full detailed discography, with what I have highlighted in orange:-

80-1: Orange Juice - Falling And Laughing/Moscow/Moscow Olympics
(sky blue labels, early copies came with free I wish I was a postcard flexi and white and blue drumming cat logo postcard)

80-2 : Orange Juice - Blueboy/Lovesick
(first pressing came with royal blue labels and a wrap around poster sleeve hand coloured by the band, the second pressing featured brown labels and brown cowboy sleeve was also a misspressing with yellow and red labels and a white cowboy sleeve)

80-3 :Josef K - Radio Drill Time/Crazy To Exist
(first pressing came with royal blue labels and a wrap around poster sleeve hand coloured by the band, some copies with "Josef K on stage" poster, the second pressing featured brown labels and brown cowboy sleeve, there was also a misspressing with yellow and red labels and a white cowboy sleeve)

80-4 : The Go Betweens - I Need Two Heads/Stop Before You Say It
(brown labels and brown cowboy sleeve, there was also a misspressing with yellow and red labels and a white cowboy sleeve)

80-5 : Josef K - It's Kinda Funny/Final Request
(brown labels and brown cowboy sleeve, initial copies with 7" size two sided colour paper insert)

80-6 : Orange Juice - Simply Thrilled Honey/Breakfast Time
(brown labels and brown cowboy sleeve, initial copies with 7" size two sided colour paper insert )

81-2: Orange Juice - Poor Old Soul/Poor Old Soul (part 2)
(black kilts sleeve, initial copies with lyric postcard)

81-3 :Aztec Camera - Just Like Gold/We Could Send Letters
(black kilts sleeve, initial copies with lyric postcard)

81-4 : Josef K - Sorry For Laughing/Revelation
(Released on the Belgian Crepuscle label under licence from Postcard with catalogue number TWI 023 with full colour picture sleeve)

81-5 :  Josef K - Chance Meeting/Pictures
(black kilts sleeve, initial copies with lyric postcard)

81-8 : Aztec Camera - Mattress Of Wire/Lost Outside The Tunnel
(full colour picture sleeve)

* 81-6 was to be Wan Light/You Old Eccentric by Orange Juice but was withdrawn
** 81-7 was The Only Fun In Town, the debut LP by Josef K

I know.  I'm an anorak.  And as a reward for wading through all of that, here ripped from vinyl are all the Postcard singles in the cupboard:-

mp3 : Aztec Camera - Just Like Gold
mp3 : Aztec Camera - We Could Send Letters

My all time favourite record label JC. AM catching Roddy in Leeds next Monday as he starts his first full band tour in 10 years.

PS Rather annoyingly I have the "full set" of Postcard originals and look at them lovingly on a regular basis, sad nearly 50 year old man that I am
