OH CLARE, THE MOMENT I MET YOU I SWEAR....
I really should feature Altered Images so much more than I do here on the pages of TVV. They were one of my favourite groups of the early 80s, and thanks to a job-lot at Xmas a couple of years back from Mrs V, I've every one of their 7" singles sitting in the cupboard - including a smattering of picture discs...
All of these sit alongside a bundle of 12" singles that I've owned for nearly 30 years now (now that's how I know I'm really getting old.....!!), including this from 1981 which made #7 in the UK chart:-
mp3 : Altered Images - I Could Be Happy (12 inch version)
Now I know its totally disposable radio-friendly pop, and yes I do accept that the vocal delivery of Clare Grogan can be an acquired taste, but how can you resist its charms?
The two tracks to be found on the b-side of the 12" are a slightly different kettle of fish.
One of them - Insects - could easily pass for the sort of thing being recorded at that time by Siouxsie & The Banshees, while the bonus track - Disco Pop Stars - is a great and speeded-up re-working of the band's debut single from earlier that same year (and very reminiscent of The Cure)

Happy Listening.
2011 Update : This posting is also doubling-up as a belated tribute to Martin Rushent, producer of this single, who died earlier this year

And David Band who designed the cover.
