THE SUNDAY CORRESPONDENTS

The greatest band of my lifetime - The Pixies - made some shocking vids. They hated videos, Black Francis refused to lip-sync and as a result they were rarely seen on TV unless they could play live.

Here Comes Your Man, what with the distorted faces and wide open mouths making the band look like comic-book aliens.



But with Velouria they really took the piss. The story is that 4AD wanted to get them on Top Of The Pops, so pressured the band to make a video. They made this and, surprise surprise, it never got shown.




Just think how huge they could have been if they hadn't been so damn stubborn. It was the only chink in their armour, but it never stopped me loving them, and it never will.
