This came on random shuffle today.
mp3 : Malcolm Middleton - Red Travellin' Socks
Infectiously upbeat. Great sing-a-long chorus. And then just when you think Malky has written a totally happy song, the final verse delivers a kick in the teeth.......
Put them on my red travellin' socks
Take them off then see where I’ve stopped
Fold them up then reach for the phone
I’ll see you again when I’m travelling home
I’ve grown to hate you red travellin' socks
You take me away from the one I love
All you have is distance and time
I’m out of sight but I’m on her mind
Take me home Take me home
Red travellin' socks
Take me home red travellin' socks
I’m out of money and I’m sick of these songs
I’ve left my girlfriend alone for too long
I need to get back where I belong
Take me home Take me home
Red travellin' socks
It’s time to dig out my travellin' socks
The walls are shrinking and I think that I’ve got
Itchy feet and you’re needing your space
You’re starting to look like you're sick of my face
Take me away Take me away
Red travellin' socks
The man is a genius. And here's a great live version.

I really do highly recommend that you get your hands on the live double CD it's taken from. Click here and send Malky your money.....

Welcome back JC, and thanks to all who kept the place ticking over in your absence. TVV is the one blog I come back to every few days without fail.
And a fine tune from Malcy.
One my favourite gigs of 2010; stripped-back and intimate, but a performance that very much wasnae up itself.
He released the live record himself, and sent a Christmas card to the first few customers – I'm guessing he grabbed a job-lot from Poundland judging by the size and quality, but it's not every year that the first Xmas card to drop through the letter box reads “Love, Malcolm”.
