LAYING DOWN THE FOUNDATIONS FOR A FUTURE COLLABORATION

I was an on-and-off fan of P.I.L.

I've five of their studio LPs in vinyl or CD form and I've also a handful of singles.

I didn't buy the 1989 LP 9, but I'm familiar with a couple of its tracks thanks to them being on a Greatest Hits CD that was released in 1990.

Similar to the random playing of Wonderwall on the i-phone last Saturday, the long bus journey to and from Dumfries also threw this at me:-

mp3 : P.I.L. - Warrior

Its the version taken from said compilation and comes in at over 7 minutes in length. It's one I've not heard in a long long time, and over the first few seconds I thought in fact that it was Pet Shop Boys......

I'm guessing that hearing this back in the late 80s was what convinced Leftfield that a collaboration with John Lydon was something well worth pursuing and which of course produced rich pickings in 1993 with the single Open Up.

Warrior is a cracking piece of music. One of the songs I wished I'd had the opportunity to have danced to when I was younger, slimmer and fitter......

Here's the original mix courtesy of the promo:-

Happy Listening

How John Lydon and Stephen Hague (there's your PSB connection JC) manage to make a song that makes me think Tackhead/Adrian Sherwood/On-U Sound, I will never know. Lydon in cartoon mode...thoroughly serious - or is he... GREAT TRACK
