The other week I gave a fleeting mention to The Occupationists, a band made up of 17 and 18 year olds that I had quite enjoyed when I caught them live.A couple of days after that posting, a friend handed me a piece of vinyl that I had long coveted. Not that I was getting to keep the piece of vinyl forever - I was merely being asked if I wouldn't mind ripping the vinyl into mp3 format for a mate to listen to.
But I was told I could put the songs up on TVV if I wanted:-
mp3 : The Skids - Charles
mp3 : The Skids - Reasons
mp3 : The Skids - Test-Tube Babies
This was their self-financed debut single released on No Bad Records in March 1978. Such was the buzz it created that the band were soon snapped up by Virgin with whom they enjoyed a fair degree of success.
The frightening thing to note is that when Charles was released, the main two protagonists, vocalist Richard Jobson and guitarist/songwriter Stuart Adamson were 17 and 20 years of age respectively.......
Oh I should point out that the No Bad version is a different mix from that which made it on to the band's debut LP about 12 months later.

Without wishing to sound like an old fart, I wish young bands today could write anything half as a decent as the skids!...their stuff still sound great over 30 years later
When you think how young Paul Weller was one he wrote The Jam's stuff, it's quite amazing.
Very underated band & I can't think why.
