IN THE BEGINNING.....

The very first song I ever posted on TVV on 30 September 2005 was a b-side to a 12" single by a band from Manchester:-

mp3 : James - Fire Away (extended version)

The a-side of the 12" single was this:-

mp3 : James - Come Home (extended Flood mix)

There was another song on the b-side of the 12"

mp3 : James - Stutter (live)

The record is housed in a purple cover with the word 'come' picked out in silver print. It has the catalogue number of JIM612. It was released in June 1990.

I also have in the cupboard another 12" version with the same catalogue number, but with a green cover and the word 'come' picked out in gold lettering. The three tracks it contains are:-

mp3 : James - Come Home (live)
mp3 : James - Goldmother (remixed by Warp)
mp3 : James - Come Home (remix)

This particular remix was by Andrew Weatherall.

What I didn't know till a couple of weeks ago was that the 7" version was different again. It was housed in a pinkish cover (as seen above), again with the word 'come' picked put in silver:-

mp3 : James - Come Home (Flood Mix)
mp3 : James - Dreaming Up Tomorrow

Despite all the different formats, the single stalled at #32 and it would be a few months yet before James came to the attention of the massses. Having said that, the marketing boys at Fontana easily outdid their counterparts at Rough Trade - when the single was originally released in November 1989, it only got as high as #84.

mp3 : James - Come Home (original version)
mp3 : James - Promised Land

So many versions and b-sides to choose from...and all of them enjoyable in one way or another.

Well, that's got December off to no bad a start......

I know you said this week was going to be a lazy week but I have loved each days post. I loved todays post. They were playing Stutter live again on this tour and I only had a crappy copy on tape so I was thrilled to get this BSide digitally finally. Thanks!
