JUST BECAUSE....

It's Monday morning and everyone deserves something very special to lift our collective spirits. I know I've featured it in more than one occasion in the past on TVV but I never ever get tired of it. Besides, it is quite difficult to track down nowadays:-

mp3 : Paul Quinn & The Independent Group - Stupid Thing
mp3 : Paul Quinn & The Independent Group - Passing Thought
mp3 : Paul Quinn & The Independent Group - Superstar

Now that's what I call music.

And remember folks, one week today for Keepingitpeel. Click here for more details.

One of my favourite singles of the 90s. Love the chorus, and the vocal is beautiful.

superb question Mr ACWPR.

Answer??

Paul Quinn has soul to the depths of his very being and a backing group that is more talented that the Barcelona starting XI.

Paul Buchanan has an undistinctive voice and with the 'band' being just too reliant on synths and electronic drumns, they are more akin to a Craig Levein select picked to play a match in Prague.

I just never have 'got' The Blue Nile. And its too late to try now.

hmmmm. not convinced by this at all! to my ear, paul b's crooning style is very similar to paul q. both have styles, a delivery, accents, that simply ooze soul and emotion. i could not pick one over other. i do hear what you say about TBN and synths (rooftops, hats) but do bear in mind that the last couple of albums (peace, high) were much more reliant on other instruments, especially acoustic guitars and non-synthed-up pianos. i honestly believe you need to reconsider, perhaps some of the great live material floating about might change yer mind!

I agree with you both! JC..you know how much i love PQ. This is music as nature intended. And re The BLue Nile....am i in a minority of one when I say I think Buchanan's phrasing is similar to Sinatra's ? ( 'aye' says JC!) i one saw The BLue Nile perform at the Royal ALbert Hall and Buchanan brought the house down with 'I Left My Heart in SF' as a solo encore. Beautiful it was. And I"m off to see Weller on Sunday. Should be entetaining seeing the expat ageing mods and their feather cuts! And Rufus W solo at the Opera House last week was incredible. Te audience were instructed NOT to applaud for the first half of the show until the interval as silence was part of the performance. (Rufus was in a black dress with 20ft train). Aye, it's not the Barrowlands!
