JUST BECAUSE....

The night of Wednesday 12th October 1994 was one of the most memorable nights of my entire life.

And I know that is was also one of the most memorable of Jacques the Kipper's as well.

If you click on this link, scroll down and you'll be able to read a wee bit more about it as well as a few reviews, not all of which are entirely complimentary.

All I'll say is that the performance of this, was up there with the best moment of any gig I've ever been to:-

mp3 : Paul Quinn & The Independent Group - Will I Ever Be Inside Of You?

Someone has said somewhere else that the gig was captured for a video or TV showing. I personally can't remember any cameras capturing the performance. I may well be wrong. But it's very sad only the few hundred who got tickets to the Glasgow Film Theatre were witness to something truly astounding. Why couldn't phone cameras have been invented a bit earlier?

Oh and many thanks to Frances who does such an outstanding job managing the Punk Rock Hotel....aka the Paul Quinn site listed on the right hand side of this blog. It's well worth spending a few minutes browsing round what truly is a a 5-star establishment.

Will I Ever Been Inside Of You? is one of the most astonishing and beautiful nine and a bit minutes of music ever recorded. Fact.

I see the album made Uncut's best lost albums list a few months back. Not even available to buy!

Of course you know that I love the Breaking Point lyrics at the very end.

Couldn't agree more. I love the song and to be honest the entire output of both albums...from the very first chord strummed on the harp. Two of my very favourite albums but the track 'Will I Ever...' still blows me away.

Cheers for the plug (again!)

I'm not sure if it was video'ed or just recorded. Certainly the Postcard Catalogh from September 94 said it was in association with BBC Scotland and was given a catalogh number of DUBH946BBC in advance of the actual gig..

second section up from the bottom has a link to request old BBC Scotland recordings for re-broadcast...

It was definitely recorded for BBC Radio Scotland as I remember running into The Professor that night, who was producing it. Although he's left the Beeb, he is still a producer on the Iain Anderson show. I reckon it was maybe for the show, Beat Patrol.

Great night, indeed. I still have the weird, photocopied magazine given out that night with Alan Horne's musings.

Of all the gigs I wish I'd been at, this one tops the list.I still hope that one day The CD will be released along with,I'm sure, many more buried gems that only a certain Mr.Horne knows exist.Criminal that such a fine voice only recorded two albums.

Is the opera part sampled?

Love every second of the song.

Opera section is not a sample. Was sung Jane Marie O'brien on the record....and she also put in an appearance at the gig.

If memory serves me right, Jane Mari performed wth Scottish Opera at thenearby Theatre Royal, took her bows, changed into something more 'rock-chick', got driven the couple of hundred yards to the GFT and joined the band for the encore which was of course, 'Will I Ever Be Inside Of You'. And then, as the review of the gig from 'The Herald' (which can be read at 'Punk Rock Hotel) reminds us, there was a duet of a cover of a disco song.

Thanks for the info.

And I've now read the reviews and wish even more I could have been there.
