One of the things I used to do a lot in the early days of TVV was dig out a piece of vinyl and highlight the fact that the b-side was something of a classic and difficult to get a hold of other than some sadsack like me converting the vinyl to mp3.I stopped doing it not so much because I ran out of ideas, but simply because with so many re-issues appearing on a weekly basis, and the fact that i-tunes and other providers were making many previously 'lost' songs available it was a wee bit counter-productive.
Today's song is available to buy on i-tunes, but I don't care as it deserves to be highlighted as a great lost b-side, particularly when the a-side was a bit duff.....I mean I like my political satire and protests but this was just all over the place.
From 1985:-
mp3 : The Style Council - Come To Milton Keynes
mp3 : The Style Council - (When You) Call Me
The dreamy b-side has always struck me as the great companion piece to Long Hot Summer, but maybe I'm in a minority with that view.
Oh and I know The Cappuccino Kid got on the tits of most TSC fans, but for once his words on (When You) Call Me seem quite apt:-
"Which is how, if we bump into luck, there will always be that someone, a friend, a lover, both or the people who brought you into life, who will be there and just to be there is enough for they make it a better world for you and others, and such a knowledge, such a sound is worth more than the sound of split coins into your hand or the spurious slap on the back from the boss. If you have that, it's your thing and precious above all value. That's the only true advert."
Happy Listening.

Not in the minority at all, this has long been one of my favourite SC tracks.
Always loved (When You) Call Me.
IMO the Home & Abroad live version is even better.
Greetings from Italy: your blog is going places..
I too like Come To Milton Keynes. The upbeat light entertainment backdrop set against a sharp, harsh bitter reality - is right up my cul-de-sac.
Elements of Squeeze seeped out when I heard it again today. Not noticed that before.
The track also reflects the sad sight of St George's flags that lay damp and unwanted in the gutter.
WV - neuvoyob (apt indeed).
