...and I loved the Trevor Horn promo dub 12" that I got given when I was working in a record shop back in the day...can uload if you are interested? Regards/
Shoot me down in flames, but I never ever got this record. I still don't. The band's glitzy image didn't do anything for me at the time either. But by all accounts Martin Fry is a top bloke. Stuart Maconie often retells a story of when he was supposed to interview him for the NME but was feeling too ill to travel. He called Fry up to let him know and Fry asked: "Where do you live? I'll come round."
I love the song and the radio. Even though this is one of those songs that's been played to death over the years on the wireless. ABC really did hit the purplest of patches during the Lexicon of Love era.
One of the few tunes that is so obviously from the early 80's ('82?) but still sounds great despite its date-stamp. I saw them about this time in NYC and they really pulled off the whole slick show - glockenspiel and everything. Whatever became of them?
I've said it before, I'll certainly say it again. The Lexicon Of Love is probably my all time favourite album. I've listened to it over the years more than almost any other. And still it shines and sparkles and shows me things I hadn't noticed before.
And for me 81-83 were some of the best years ever for pop music.
top pop fact Trevor Horn got Martin Fry's ex girlfriend in to say the "goodbye" at the end of "when your girl has left you out on the pavement"- she had dumped Martin Fry and apparently it was this relationship that fuelled alot of his lyrics.
Just last night I was listening to Lexicon of Love, such a perfect album! My personal favorites are Date Stamp and All Of My Heart, the production on those tracks is so pristine, so perfect, it'd be a pleasure to hear even if the songs were crap, which of course they're not. Timeless record, and the image of the band, you get it or you don't. When I was younger I hated them, in fact, I guess I was a humorless punk. Great site, by the way, keep it up!

Erm, song and the video, even.

Perfect pop - oh yes! And it clocks in at 3'30'' on the standard single.
But the video was rubbish. No matter - I still play this regularly too. Think 'All Of My Heart' is awesome, too...
Someone wrote a wonderful piece about Trevor Horn not so long ago !!!!!!!
Yes. Still playing it regularly.
