THIS WAS SO NEARLY A FRIDAY SERIES (Part 2)

Dear Reader

I must ask you to please cast your mind back to last October - Wednesday 28th to be precise.

I hadn't long finished the Morrissey on Fridays series, and I admitted that I had contemplated featuring all the singles released by Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds but had come to my senses that I couldn't inflict that on you.

But I did promise that it would become an occasional feature. And I am a man of my word - albeit I've returned to it after just four and a half months instead of the promised six. Please forgive me.

The seventh of his 29 singles so far. But it didn't prove to be lucky, failing to break into the Top 100 upon its release in the late summer of 1990.

mp3 : Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds - The Weeping Song

Featuring a joint vocal with Blixa Bargeld, the song was accompanied by a rather silly promo video that I can recall being played on terrestrial TV via the short-lived Max Headroom show.

Much better is this very fine live TV appearance from June 1990:-

And as ever, here's yer b-sides, including a cover of a Neil Young track:-

mp3 : Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds - Cocks'n'Asses
mp3 : Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds - Helpless

I reckon the title of one of the b-sides should ensure me some passing pervy traffic......

(and no, the great Canadian did not ever write a song called Cock'n'Asses....at least not to my knowledge).

Happy Listening.

You know, JC, I saw the Birthday Party at a NYC club called Danceteria in 1983. I never saw anything like them before or since. They were positively scary. I've heard a lot of Nick Cave's solo stuff over the years but, ultimately, I could never get too excited over it because nothing compared to that performance all those years ago. 'Release the Bats', 'Deep in the Woods'...those tunes still give me the creeps in broad daylight. Now a Birthday Party series -- I could go for that!

Hey Johnny East/West! You were there too!?! Typical Danceteria night I think they didn't go on until close to 2am...but then that's foggy, but if I remember my friends and I lasted 4 songs before we were too freaked out...I remember Nick basically swallowing the mike at one point - something I have only ever scene Jim Thirwell do as well. I probably should have stayed but wow that night still sticks in my memory!
