TARTAN VIDEO WEEK AT TVV (Part 4)

As much as I love the solo output from Aidan Moffat and Malcolm Middleton, I really do miss Arab Strap.

The good news is that as part of the Chemikal Underground 15th anniversary celebrations, a box set of Arab Strap material is about to be released under the rather provocative title of Scenes Of A Sexual Nature. It's one of the things I'm most looking forward to in the coming weeks. Click here to read more.

Today's video nasty is unusual in a number of ways.

Firstly, it is the extremely rare sight of a clean-shaven Aidan. Secondly, Malcolm appears in the video for a short time - and from what I remember it's the only time he ever does in any of the Arab Strap promos that were made.

And yes, Mike Skinner did sort of rip this idea off a few years later for the promo to Blinded By The Lights. Go have a look on you tube and see what I mean.....

Anyway, this particular single was a different version of the song Soaps that appears on their peerless 1998 LP Philophobia. It had different b-sides on the 7" and 12" versions

mp3 : Arab Strap - (Afternoon) Soaps
mp3 : Arab Strap - Phone Me Tomorrow
mp3 : Arab Strap - Toy Fights
mp3 : Arab Strap - Forest Hills

And that concludes this mini-series. I hope you enjoyed what you saw and heard.

Steve Jones of Jonesy's Jukebox hosts Jonah Hill and the Duplass Brothers to discuss their upcoming film “Cyrus”. John C. Reilly plays John, a lonely divorcĂ© who meets Molly, the woman of his dreams. It seems there is only room for one man in Molly’s life and her son, Cyrus, played by Jonah Hill, is not going to give up the top spot without a fight. John and Cyrus have met their match in this comical struggle for power written and directed by Jay and Mark Duplass. May the best man win! Check out this, and many more of Jonesy’s Jukebox full length interviews with Bob Saget, Wilmer Valderrama, Billy Corgan, Zeina Durra, Michael Chiklis to name a few at IAMROGUE.

Here's how much I like Arab Strap (and Chemikal - on another label I'd consider nicking it off the net): I don't own a record player, but I'll still buy that sodding box set, because it'll be pretty and have stuff I don't have.
Then I'll but the Weekend... and Philophobia reissues when they come out too.
