It was only when uploading Ooh, She Said by The Wonder Stuff that I remembered about this hit single from the Britpop era:-mp3 : Longpigs - She Said
This lot formed in Sheffield in 1993, but didn't really enjoy any mainstream success until 1996 when just about any four-piece that was guitar-orientated and hailed from Great Britain got into the charts as record labels and radio stations went ga-ga for anything that could be linked into the Blur/Oasis sound.
That's actually a bit unfair on Longpigs, for there is a fair bit of quality within their ranks, albeit none of this really became apparent until after their demise. Their most famous member was Richard Hawley who has since released six solo albums to huge critical acclaim. Hawley however, was not the singer or indeed main song-writer in the band - that honour fell to Crispin Hunt.
Some of you might think.....now that's a name I've heard before but can't quite place. That's because he's carved out a career as a writer/producer for hire and was instrumental in the early career of Florence & The Machine, among others. Please do not get him confused with Crispian Mills, the frontman of the loathsome Kula Shaker from the same era.....
Oh and the bass player with Longpigs, Simon Stafford, later became part of Joe Strummer & The Mescaleros and in 2009 was the keyboardist on the Jarvis Cocker LP Further Complications, as well as a member of the touring band.
Told you there was a bit of pedigree in Longpigs. Here's your b-sides, of which Tendresse is a Richard Hawley composition (on which he sings vocals), while the others, like the single, are the work of the frontman.

Happy Listening.
PS
Talking of Sheffield bands.......I know I gave a bit of stick out to the last album. But I can forgive them everything for this fucking amazing cover:-
Now I'd never claim it was as good as the original, but given I'm a sucker for covers of my favourite songs that are very very distinctlt different, then it's easy to see why I'm fond of it.

excellent!
Love that Longpigs single. That takes me back to the mid 90s, Chris Evans used to play it all the time.
Weird, I listened to that Monkeys cover while doing my Red feature and it didn't grab me at all. Yet I liked the last album. How odd.
Longpigs were a great singles band , the other on i really like was on and on - thought the lps were a bit patchy
Thanks for these! I'm definitely a Longpigs fan, and She Said was my favourite song of theirs.
Just to echo the above sentiments. Loving the Longpigs. Well, their first album anyway. Second one was a bit shit really.
"She Said" is a class tune, I couldnt name another by them however
