I was delighted by the very positive response via the comments section to the idea of featuring each of the singles released by Cinerama between 1998 and 2003. It's always pleasing to realise I'm onto something that is of interest to many readers.Today looks back to the debut single, the one that got the band most chart success thanks to its #71 placing!!
Kerry Kerry is a gorgeous bitter-sweet single - yet another example of David Gedge being the best ever songwriter to have walked the planet when it comes to infidelity and relationships breaking-up. It's a great sing-a-long tune with some wonderful orchestration around the chorus....
mp3 : Cinerama - Kerry Kerry
It was released on 2 x 7" singles as well as a CD single, each with different b-sides. But being a generous sort of person, I thought it would be worth highlighting all of them:-
mp3 : Cinerama - Love
mp3 : Cinerama - Au Pair
mp3 : Cinerama - 7X
mp3 : Cinerama - Mr. Kiss Kiss Bang Bang
The first two tracks are taken from the CD single, and Love features a duet between David and Emma Pollock, then a member of The Delgados but nowadays carving out a succesful solo career. Have a listen, and see if you agree that Love is one of the greatest long-lost songs of all time. It's a song that is listed as 'written by Gedge/Womack', so I'm assuming the orchestral intro is sampled from some other song.....anyone able to enlighten?
Happy Listening

David Gedge is "the best ever songwriter to have walked the planet when it comes to infidelity and relationships breaking-up." You said it, brother. When George Best came out I listened to it relentlessly and tried evangelically to convince all my friends that it was the be all and end all of breakup albums. Observing that I had just gone through a crappy break up with a girl I was crazy about, my best friend told me "you wouldn't be saying that if you hadn't just been ditched." Years and years later, when I'd already been happily married for a while, I called my friend and made him admit that GB was, in fact, a fantastic record -- even for people not in the throes of love bummers. I kind of lost track of the Wedding Present somewhere around Watusi. So, thanks TVV for filling in the gaps. Looking forward to more in this series.
