THE CLASS OF '79 (Part 36)

In the days of i-phones, blackberrys and all sorts of methods of instant messaging and communications, it must be high odds against ever meeting someone for the first time and having to resort to ink and skin for the oh-so-vital phone number:-

mp3 : The Jags - Back Of My Hand

Released in September 1979 and hitting the #17 spot, this was it for The Jags in terms of chart success. A classic example of a one-hit wonder.

Sounding like an offcut of Elvis Costello, Dave Edmunds or Nick Lowe, this remains a great post-punk, new-wave single that was perfect for radio. The b-side however, is a bit pub-rock and perhaps shows why the band never enjoyed more success:-

Happy Listening

Indeedy.

These days, one is more likely to have a girl's number and the name of her children tattoed in Mandarin on the back of one's neck.

Sad Jag.....I put this posting together a week or two back and didnt realise it would appear that day after the Rovers played and defeated Partick Thistle (aka The Jags for those who dont know Scottish club nicknames).

A total coincidence!!!

And yes, I did enjoy it. Cracking game of football and its been years since I've seen our team defend so stoutly.

Still reckon we'll do well to finish in the Top 5 come the end of the season, but its great fun just now.

I just got transported back to my sophomore year in High School arriving at a party with my singles and standing by the record player most of the night to make sure none of them went for a walk...BRILLIANT!

You've cheered me up with Butcher Boy. Saw them play a great gig at a fundraiser at the old RAFA a couple of years ago (Little League night, if memory serves).

Glad to see the Rovers back in the 1st - even if they did defend too well.

Talk about coincidences - Double Vision.
