And don't go thinking that the great Scottish singles soon to appear here every Friday will have all been flops or by bands/singers you might not have heard of. There will be loads of big hits such as this #7 smash from 1983:-mp3 : Altered Images - Don't Talk To Me About Love
mp3 : Altered Images - Last Goodbye
Not long after I started TVV (which is almost exactly three years ago) it was still possible to rummage around ebay and pick up bargains in vinyl records as the USB alternative was still in its infancy and many folk probably reckoned they would never play their bits of plastic again. And so Santa Claus brought me the entire 7" collection of singles by Altered Images. All ten of them, in picture sleeves, with a couple of limited edition picture discs thrown as well. I'm sure Mrs V paid about £12 plus postage for them.
But I've always owned this particular picture disc. It escaped being part of the tragic loss of all my 7" singles for the simple reason that it was pinned up on my wall and therefore separate from all the boxes that were carelessly left behind in a moonlit flit. Clare is just soooooo gorgeous in the photo used on the disc.....almost as gorgeous as she is on this TOTP appearance:-
Don't Talk To Me About Love was the band's seventh single, and their third and final Top 10 hit. The commercial flop of the album Bite, along with Clare wanting more and more to concentrate on her acting career, saw the end of Altered Images within nine months of this TV appearance.
Oh and dont get me started on the fickle taste of the general public. Bite is one of the most gorgeous pop albums ever recorded - very akin to the sort of stuff that would initially make a star out of Paddy McAloon and Prefab Sprout - and far superior to the bigger selling Happy Birthday and Pinky Blue LPs.
Such is my love for all of the band's singles that many of them will likely to feature on the upcoming series.
Happy Listening. And Happy Ogling.

Bite is brilliant - especially you bring me closer. My 12" of Dont talk to me about love is worn out
Oh Claire, how I loved thee...
No 7 eh? It's hard to imagine 6 better singles that year let alone that week.
Did I tell you I once stood next to Clare at the bar in the Hammersmith Palais? They were supporting U2 there and I'd gone for a drink after their set when she appeared all on her own beside me ordering a drink. She was lovely but so so tiny.
'Bite' is a brilliant album, such a shame it didn't do better.
did i ever tell you all that I once danced with Clare at Level 8 in Strathclyde Students Union? At the end of the record I asked her to marry me (I was just a tad drunk and therefore brave/stupid). She turned down my proposal using very unladylike language......
But I still worship her from afar.
Mrs Villain thinks Clare in her 40s is now the spitting image of Gillain Monteith, which is about as cruel a comment as she's ever thrown at me.
I used to wrok with a guy who worked security in the early eighties at the Brighton Centre.
He said he was assigned the role of bodyguard to Claire Grogan at a Haircut 100 gig to stop autograph hunters. Not one person asked for her autography and she was mightly pissed off...lol
OK, I think dancing with her beats standing next to her at a bar. Jammy git.
Mr JC who is Gillian Monteith ?? Do you mean Gillian McKeith ?? the Doctor Poo woman ??
Clare is far better looking.

Brilliant stuff, in the early days of our courtship Mrs Rhinestone, put this and 'I could be happy' on a compilation CD. It was a splendid introduction to Altered Images.
Ogling indeed, hahah.... just think if she'd said yes, JC! what would you have done then? xoxo
I don't blame Mrs. Villain one bit ;)
Mr Greer
Thankf you for correcting the name of the poo woman.
That's the problem with those Scottish names. Impossible to pronounce and impossible to spell.
JC
It may have been the poo woman you danced with ????!!!!!

I love Bite, I have it as a white label vinyl with no cover, bought from a shop in Ayr a long time ago...bring me closer is great, but love to stay still does it for me...
There is nothing like a fiesty scots lass to get one's blood pumping to all parts of ones body........lovely stuff.
