ANYONE WANT TO SELL ME THIS?

I've spent a fair bit of time trying really hard to complete my collection of singles on the Postcard label.

And last Saturday, I thought I was as close as I'll ever get.

I've long given up ever getting my hands on the ultra-rare and ultra-expensive debut by Orange Juice - (Falling & Laughing b/w Moscow - for which I've gone as high as £100 on ebay twice and got nowhere near it). But I harbour hopes of one day landing the sole The Go-Betweens single recorded for the label (I Need Two Heads b/w Stop Before You Say It).

Last week, one came up one ebay and I shoved in a bid of £22.50. The closing date was last Saturday at 8pm, and thanks to a delay in getting home after the Raith Rovers v Dundee match and not being at the PC for the final moments of the auction, I lost out to a late bid.

Now the thing is, I already have one of the the songs on vinyl as it was included on the LP 1979-1990, but I would love to get my hands on the 7" piece of plastic real estate. Anyone selling?? Or know of anyone who might be selling???

mp3 : The Go-Betweens - I Need Two Heads

It was during the recent mad spending spree that I picked up the other single that had been missing from the collection. So a big thanks for the advent of ebay and an increasing willingness/desire of some folk to sell off some old rarities.....

mp3 : Aztec Camera - Just Like Gold
mp3 : Aztec Camera - We Could Send Letters

The b-side was re-recorded and put on the band's debut LP High Land Hard Rain, but the music snob in me will insist that the original - released as Postcard 81 3 - is the best

STOP PRESS : My plea has not been in vain. One fabulous reader has sent me an email and named a price that is extremely fair. Thanks Gary.

However, given that Grace Maxwell in the recent book revealed that not even Edwyn has a vinyl copy of Falling & Laughing in his collection, I'm not expecting to ever own the complete set of Postcard singles...

well, try discogs, JC: 17 members have the single in their collection, if I were you I'd send a little message to each of them asking politely if they are by any chance interested in selling it. They can't say more than 'bugger off', can they?

Funnily enough, I just bought 'Blue Boy' off of eBay yesterday. Got it on the Glasgow School CD. but looking forward to playing it on the Dansette in mono.

Have you tried Musicstack?

If it's not a rude question, how much did you pay for 'Just Like Gold'? Just wondering how much my copy is worth.

Stevie....you're a lucky boy. Most of my Postcard singles dont have all the bits and bobs that came with them. But I'm happy enough to have the vinyl.....

Post Music of London has a copy of the Go Betweens single for £30. I found it through Musicstack. Just in case your other options fall through. All the best.

When I was outbid on eBay the other day and to my disbelief Can's Tago Mago LP sold for £519 I was wondering who is out there paying silly money for vinyl. And now I have part of the answer... YOU!

Lee....its not a rude question.

I picked up a mint condition copy, but without the photo postcard Stevie has made reference to for £16. I've no doubt that if you have the bits and bobs it makes it more valuable.

Its like my 12" copy of Panic by The Smiths. It came with a set of 9 stickers, but I reckon most folk used them on notebooks, bags etc at the time. Seems if you can also provide the stickers you might get an extra few quid....

Sorry the G....I dont really pay silly money for vinyl. As I mentioned in the piece, I've gone as high as £100 for one particular rare record that also has sentimental value.

There's no way I'd pay anything like £519 for a record no matter what it was.

Wonderful JC!! I'd only ever heard Just Like Gold in live versions, never the original, so what a thrill. It's lovely-you've made me so happy!!

I liked yesterdays too, especially the Butcher Boy. No summer blahs for you, I can see. You're still on a roll and it's so nice to know I can stop by every day and read & listen to great stuff. Thank you so much for everything.

Well, it's the small boy in us all, isn't it? Collecting that is. I mean, why keep all that vinyl when you can mp3 it?

This won't help JC but I have every Postcard record in all their sleeve variants. Yes I am a smug bastard.
