I remember Jacques the Kipper being impressed that I had this in my record collection during one of our earliest ever conversations. In fact just typing that sentence made me remember that I wrote about all this previously as the single was featured on these pages in May 2008 as the #16 song in the 45 45s at 45 series.Click here if you fancy a flashback.....you get a little flavour of my life story if you're remotely interested.

I really do love the use of violins and cellos on this single.....and all three b-sides are tasty as well.

WOW!
You've actually listened to the pixies since the 80's?!
that's awesome for a 15 year old fan to hear man!
I love them, especially seeing as they influence a lot of my own tastes.
That's great for you man.
Dear JC,
I just read the original post (again) ... and it made me smile, because these days I seem to face the same problem in my marriage/fatherhood: no time for new music and/or gigs. Then again there aren't that many new bands who'd play venues nearby, certainly none that would be good enough to make me drive two hours plus spend a fortune for a ticket.
Still got my turntable set up though ... so there seems to be hope. At least.
Cheers,
Dirk
btw: missed your contribution to the CP-wanking-episode: too much of a gentleman to take part in such a filth, mate?
top stuff - i'm by no means a pixies uberfan but I once salvaged a pile of tapes from my flatmate who was slinging them out - and this cassingle lived in my car for about 6 months on constant rotation. Really great b-sides..
Cassingle eh? remember them!
Hi Dirk
Gentleman? Far from it.....I'm missing from about 4 or 5 pre-recorded episodes as I didnt have the time to get involved.
Orgasm Addict would have been my first and obvious choice....but failing that I would have probably have selected 'Love Bomb' by Clare Grogan and completly humiliated myself in the intro.
Oh if only you'd had the time! :)
And yes, Monkey Gone To Heaven was what hooked me onto the Pixies, and yes I still listen to them often. There's nothing like being stuck in traffic and listening to a whole album and just losing yourself, is there? xoxox
Great track from one of the finest bands of all time. For many years I worked for Our Price Music and Gigantic was the first song I ever put on to play on 12" in my first store back in 1988 - seems like only yesterday. If only. Can't wait 'til October to see them live again.
Pixies always had interesting B-Sides; this is a great example. They've covered Neil Young's Winterlong, for example, as well as I've Been Waiting. I too still listen to the Pixies, especially their underrated Tromp Le Monde, but the many Frank Black solo albums are all worth checking into. One terrific album after another since the Pixies broke up.

:D
ty for this!
Tut,
call this 'lazy postings".
Lazy posting is when you only use your blog to list the films that you recently seen and the books you've recently picked up.
Tsk, you're an amateur. You must try harder to come off lazier ;-)
Oh how I love Pixies. This is a good reminder to go off and listen to all those cracking b-sides again.
In true saddo fan style one of our cats is named Bailey after the track Bailey's Walk, the other one is Murphy (as in Mrs John Murphy). My wife is very understanding!
i was at their last (pre reform) gig in glasgow, about 17 years ago at SECC.
supported by wedding present, cud and teenage fanclub if i remember rightly, they got through about 2 songs when the crush barrier broke and the gig was scrapped.
the oafish promoter took to the stage and assured us 'the pixies WILL be back' and if you think about it he was right. and we shouldn't have pelted him with whatever liquid was at ahand
