......can you help solve this one?
Just yesterday, I got a very nice email from Tom in response to the recent posting of Touch by Lori & The Chameleons. He noticed that I didn't have a copy of the follow-up single The Lonely Spy and he said he would be happy to send me an mp3 file.
I took up this very generous offer, and in the subsequent email, Tom also attached a second mp3 file saying:-
'While you're there, can you identify this song from the same time period? I digitized it from an old cassette tape from the summer of 1983. It has stumped everyone I know...'
It stumped me as well.

No idea of the song but clicking on some of the links on the sharebee site cause some very dodgy "your computer is infected" popup ads to appear. I'd steer well clear.

Pity that the song has so much echo.
What I hear is: 'I want to become...' and then..?

It's Monty Cantsin and "Caoutchouc Culture" believe it or not. I have it on Return of Flexipop 9, but I don't know where it's from originally or any other details. A quick google search and translation says "culture of rubber" and there are references to cultures of rubber in South America and Africa, but somehow, knowing that the song is from 1983, it makes me think that it's a song about the joys of latex--just a guess.

The word "caoutchouc" gave rise to the Scottish derivative "kahouchy" - pronounced kahootchie - used to describe anything made of, or having the properies of rubber, for instance, "This tripe is like kahouchy; mah jaws are sair chewin' it".
Curse you TVV/Tom! Having listened closely to the song to help in it's I.D., it is now lodged in my gray matter and makes an appearance daily. I think I was even singing CowChew out loud last evening. Maybe it will replace "Electric Avenue" in my internal auditory hell.
Greg - I feel your pain! I apologize for infecting you with the Caoutchouc but I also feel comfort in no longer suffering alone. Maybe TVV has a remedy. - Tom
