BACK TO BASICS WEEK - MONDAY

Dearest Readers.

Tomorrow will see the 700th posting at TVV....well, if the truth be told we've already done 700 postings, but when you subtract the two stolen away by DMCA nonsense, then tomorrow is the day for the significant number.

And in commemoration of the fact, I've decided to get right back to what it was that got me thinking a blog of this type might be of some interest, namely the posting of rare and sometimes difficult to find tracks from some of my favourite singers and bands of all time. There's a real special treat planned for #700 - but you can relax ctelbog, it ain't going to be anything to do with Edwyn Collins or Orange Juice.

To kick off the week, I'm featuring the debut single by Arab Strap. Released in a very limited edition of just 700 copies, I sadly don't posses the actual bit of vinyl, but the wonderful people at Chemikal Underground have made it available via digital download over at their website for just a few of your pennies, euros, dollars or whatever is your currency. So if you have a listen and like what you hear, I insist that you make a purchase by clicking here.

mp3 : Arab Strap - The First Big Weekend
mp3 : Arab Strap - Gilded

The title track isn't actually all that difficult to track down as it was included on the band's debut LP The Week Never Starts Around Here.

And while I'm yakking on about t'Strap, I may as well post these versions of the songs:-

mp3 : Arab Strap - The First Big Weekend (Four Tet Remix)
mp3 : Arab Strap - Gilded (live)

The former is taken from the single There Is No Ending, the latter from Ten Years of Tears, a wonderful compilation CD put out to commemorate the break-up of the band.

I really do miss Arab Strap, but the consolation is that Aidan Moffat and Malcolm Middleton have continued to release utterly magical music under their own steam, and there's more on the way from both of them in 2009.

Happy Listening.

That's probably my favourite Arab Strap record, I never tire of hearing it.

I almost had a fight with a bloke in a record shop over this as we both wanted the one copy they had. I managed to snag it, happily.

Let me be one of the 1st to congratulate you, old lad. 700 is some feat.

Bunting currently being prepared, brown ale on ice (by the back door), and an old 'rainbow fountain' firework warming its 'damp squib' by the radiator.

You have much to be proud of.

No OJ @ 700? Shurely shome mishtake.

Oh, and Four Tet is wonderful. You ought to look out for "Rounds" - lovely bit of pastoral electronica (aka folktronica).

Congratulations, and thank you for all your support over at 17 Seconds over the years too!

Happy 700 -- and many thanks for what you've provided along the way (not the least of which was inspiration!)
