Je t'aime Le Council du Style.I'd give you more frenchy type words, but I'm afraid, to my eternal shame, that I have failed miserably to learn the techniques of any language other than English.....and even then, it's sometimes a struggle.
mp3 : The Style Council - Down In The Seine
A lovely little track that's tucked away on Our Favourite Shop, a hugely underrated LP that was released in 1985. It's also the home to this great bit of sad-tale pop, one of my all-time favourite Weller compositions:-
mp3 : The Style Council - Boy Who Cried Wolf
Now I'll never ever claim that The Style Council came close to the god-like genius of The Jam, but its a million times more listenable than the solo career of Paul Weller, or indeed of his former sidekick:-
mp3 : Bruce Foxton - It Makes Me Wonder (12 inch version)
I picked up a second-hand copy of this 12" single the other day for 50p. I'd never heard it before I shoved it on the turntable and I don't envisage playing it again given that it's so lifeless and dull.
Anyone disagree?
Happy Listening.

I listened to Foxton's Freak the other week, and I too was very very bored. I really liked it when it first came out, but hadn't heard it for almost all of those 25 years. I probably won't listen to it again for another...
I'm going to see Weller live in a couple of weeks. I don't really know much of his SC work, and doubt he does it live anyway. I love the Jam, but can take or leave much of his solo work (which I guess will take up most of the show). It'll be interesting to see what I make of it...
Je n'aime pas le Style Coucil. Ils sont pretenceuse. Vraiment Cappucini Kid est une imbecile.
I bought all things 'ex-Jam' back then. I think the shortened version of 'It Makes Me Wonder' was a bit punchier, but I could be wrong.
Foxton's second single 'This Is The Way' was better than both this and his first single 'Freak' I do recall.
Cripes, I even bought Time UK's effort with Rick Buckler called 'The Cabaret'. 1983 was an odd year.
I don't speak French (Rodders), but I percieve that Monsieur Ctelblog considers all that Garlic Gallic stuff as pretentious coffee drinking arse. This may be true, but some of the music of that first 2-3 years was fantastique ... like. Milk steamed and whipped to perfection.
Weller still usually puts in the odd SC song rol. You really should check some of it out.
Any disagreements following this debate should be settled in a mud wrestle.
Thanks jc
TSC would never mud wrestle. Pistols at dawn, maybe.
The only problem I have with Boy Who Cried Wolf is that I paid a lot of money for a Japanese import 12" single which turned out to be exactly the same as the version on the album. And not a word from the CK on the reverse, either.
Im with you on this one JC, the solo stuff is just plain boring except Into Tomorrow but that was the Paul Weller Movement.
I suspect CTEL can't stand the Style Council for their abomination of a cover version of Joe Smooth's Promised Land, very bad council house.
Drew
My previous negativity about the SC has mellowed, though I don't think they'll ever be a primary listen for me.
@Drew "very bad council house" made me snort coffee over the keyboard.
