A NATION THAT KNOWS HOW TO PARTY (Part 1)

It's St Patrick's Day this coming Monday, and here at TVV we're going to have a weekend of stuff highlighting some singers and bands from the Emerald Isle.

But rest assured dear readers, I will spare you from Bono - I awlways get flack whenever U2 appear in these pages.

First up are these funsters from Cork:-

mp3 : The Frank And Walters - Fashion Crisis Hits New York
mp3 : The Frank And Walters - Happy Busman

The band formed in 1990, and before long were enjoying success in their native land on the Setanta label. They were snapped up by Go! Discs and teamed up with Edwyn Collins who produced their debut LP Trains, Boats and Planes from which these tracks are taken.

They had some chart success before, like many others of their ilk, being caught out of fashion as grunge and all things American gripped the music fans of Old Blighty.

The band took until 1997 to record a follow-up LP, but since then have been recording and touring on a regular basis.

Oh and can I just take this opportunity to mention that Edwyn Collins was also a member of Orange Juice, and if you read here, you can find something unusual and interesting.

Aaaah now. That's mighty.

I'm very fortunate in that St. Patrick's Day is my birthday.

I'm going to be ordering an Orange Juice CD this year as a present to myself.

Cheers

Dusty

ps - my local radio show is now up and running - have a peek at:

to see the kind of things we play.

Plenty Times by Frank & Walters is one of my favourite songs of all-time. I'll really have to blog that sometime actually! It has a great video, too, if you can track it down - with a bunch of glamorous female models taking the place of the band and miming all their parts (matron) on a windswept expanse of countryside, if memory serves.

Thank god, no bonzo. Some SLF would be nice, going to see them at the Barras on Monday, a bit of trepidation, not been in the Barras for 15 years, prefering more intimate venues such as King Tuts these days.

great to see the Frank and Walters getting some fame!

I've got some badges / t-shirts from them from about 1992...when they were on tour...supported by Radiohead.

Strange to see how things have changed since then
